Sustainable Community Leadership Award – April 2015

Drum roll… attention everyone…. The Slater Garden was ‘Highly Commended’ (aka runner-up) for the Whitehorse Council’s 2015 Sustainable Community Leadership Award! The Council recognises the work of a local Whitehorse not-for-profit community groups engaged in initiatives that contribute to sustainable communities. Special thanks to all the Committee members who spending time to write up a four-page nomination! Gael and Wen attended the award presentation night and took some photos with the Mayor. We received a certificate and an indigenous plant – a type of Correa – in a hand-made pot by a local artist. Our good friends in the Urban Harvest Swap were also ‘Highly Commended’ in the same category. The main winner of the 2015 Whitehorse Sustainable Community Leadership Award was Kent Johansen whose sustainable lifestyle and actions have inspired others. He also won the Overall Sustainability Award! It’s great that Council continues recognising so many excellent groups, initiatives and individuals for their contributions to a healthier planet and community.
